Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle enjoyed the finest moment in their burgeoning careers when Glen Shiel won the British Champions Sprint in October and they could have another late-developing classy prospect following Going Places' success in the 7f novice stakes.

While a cold winter Saturday was far removed from Champions Day, the aptly named five-year-old put in a striking performance with a four-length victory in the Hambleton Racing colours to get off the mark at the third attempt and on his first start for the trainer.

"He looked very classy, even under hands and heels before Hollie went after him, and he quickened away well. He has a lot of quality," the winning trainer said. "The second has got some solid form. We'll take it step by step but he's one we hope can progress.

"Hambleton have been fantastic supporters of ours and I'm delighted we've had a lot of success together in such a short amount of time. Tom Biggs [bloodstock agent] unearthed Glen Shiel and this lovely horse for us, his hard work is getting rewarded."

Cardano leads double

Owner Roger Brookhouse's colours have been associated with some jumping stars but he has built up a strong Flat team in recent years and landed a double on the card, headlined by Cardano's victory in the feature 1m4f handicap.

The five-year-old secured his first victory since August 2019 with a one-length success under Richard Kingscote for trainer Ian Williams following the trio's success earlier on the card with Lucky's Dream, who narrowly obliged in the 1m2f handicap.
