Hat-trick up for Ciara Flynn as unstoppable Power Drive proves too tough a nut

Wednesday: Dundalk

With a helping hand from his daughter Ciara, Longford trainer Paul Flynn once again lit up a midweek meeting at Dundalk when Power Drive made all in the first division of the 1m4f handicap.

Ciara Flynn was recording the third win of her riding career, all of which have come aboard Power Drive, meaning she can claim just 7lb from now.

The win was achieved in its usual fashion, with Power Drive bouncing out, making all and proving too tough a nut to crack on the front end despite carrying 8lb for his recent course success.

“Ciara gets a right tune out of him,” Flynn beamed afterwards. “He had a little problem that we thought we couldn’t cure and John [Eastwood, owner] said to leave him in the yard and for Ciara to ride him. It’s great she's repaying his faith.”

He added: “Ciara is doing everything right – judging the pace well – and that's her 10lb claim gone now after three wins [all achieved on Power Drive] so she'll be able to have a bit more dinner now.

“Power Drive is well handicapped over hurdles but he needs quick ground which you don’t get too often. If he gets good ground over hurdles he should do a job.”

No Business worries for McDonogh

Declan McDonogh said he never had a moment’s worry after landing the feature 7f handicap aboard Gordon Elliott’s Business to complete a double on the card.

Business travelled into the race better than anything and, despite pulling up a shade when he got to the front, won in good style from Rocky Dreams.

McDonogh said: “He's really quick out of the gates and puts you in a lovely spot. I never had a moment's worry and he just pulled up a little when he got to the front. He's a nice horse. He's progressive.”

The rider was in the winner’s enclosure earlier on the card when he partnered Jimmy Coogan’s French Company to victory.
