Harry Fry eyeing mares' final rather than Cheltenham for unbeaten Lady Adare
Tuesday: Taunton
Lady Adare maintained her flawless start for the Harry Fry yard by extending her winning streak to four with an impressive success in the 2m3f mares' novice hurdle.
The six-year-old was sent off 1-4 favourite to follow up her Newcastle success in January and duly obliged by an easy 16 lengths under Johnny Burke.
Lady Adare was cut to 16-1 for the Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, but Fry is eyeing the EBF Mares' Final at Newbury in April as her next likely target.
"That was a very nice performance, she was more professional and her jumping was good," said Fry. "We bought her after she won her bumper and when you do that you hope you're buying a proper racehorse as they've got to progress, but she seems to be doing that.
"We're really looking forward to stepping her up in grade and that race now qualifies her for the EBF Final on April 2. She does have an entry for the Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the festival but before this we were hoping to qualify and go to Newbury, so that remains the most likely plan."
Dan disappoints
The David Bass-ridden Ajero kept on well to land the 2m½f handicap hurdle for Kim Bailey in a race in which Langer Dan failed to fire on his first start in 11 months.
Langer Dan was last seen finishing second behind Galopin Des Champs in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at last year's Cheltenham Festival, but maintained his position at the top of the market for this year's Martin Pipe at 7-1 despite finishing last of six.
