Harris eyeing Lingfield riches with Jacamar after success under Danny Mullins
Sunday: Kempton
Milton Harris capped his first visit and runner on King George day in perfect style as the resurgent trainer continued his fantastic season when Jacamar rallied late for a dramatic victory in the 2m4½f novice handicap chase.
Harris, whose career has been revived following the exploits of stable star Knight Salute among others this term, notched a landmark winner on one of Britain's prestigious jumps fixtures when the 11-1 shot stayed on late to overhaul Your Darling and repel eventual runner-up Mister Coffey.
An emotional Harris said: "It's what we do it for. I've never had runners on King George day before, this is the first time I've been. It's hard to beat the big boys and we've never had really good horses here.
"He does nothing in front, hence why we put the cheekpieces on. When they turned in I thought he'd win as he just stays. There's a lot of prize-money at Lingfield next month which we could target and we might even go for the festival. He's no superstar, but he's proper solid."
Jacamar's three-quarter length success formed the first leg of a memorable 347-1 double for Danny Mullins, who landed the King George VI Chase aboard Tornado Flyer.
Harris said: "Danny rode for me last time about ten or 12 years ago and won. I was worried he wouldn't believe we had to be the last pair. If he got to the front at the last, we probably wouldn't have won!"
Treble delight
Nicky Henderson added another potential top-notch prospect to his ridiculously strong battalion of novice hurdlers as Broomfield Burg cruised to victory in the 2m novice hurdle.
The five-year-old was sent off the 1-3 favourite following main rival Paso Doble's withdrawal and motored away between the last two flights to score by ten lengths.
Henderson said: "Funnily enough we took the hood off him today, which was actually put on him to make him settle. He was very settled off no gallop. He's learning and that'll do him the world of good."
The Seven Barrows trainer already has Jonbon and Constitution Hill at the top of his talented team of novice hurdlers, but believes Broomfield Burg is not far off them in the pecking order.
"This lad has talent. He has pace and jumps very well but he's learnt to race professionally," Henderson added. "The novice hurdlers will sort themselves out in time, but they're a strong team which comes in waves."
Broomfield Burg's victory kickstarted a treble for Henderson, who also scored with Epatante in the Christmas Hurdle and Marie's Rock in the 2m5f handicap hurdle.
