Any regulars with long memories among the crowd enjoying the sun on a free day's racing were on a 5-1 winner.

Three years and one week earlier, Captain Moirette had made a promising debut for third in a bumper here – so much so that the Racing Post analyst hailed him as 'the one to take out of the race' in a contest won by future Grade 1 winner Sam Spinner.

The big grey was beset by problems thereafter and was off the course for exactly 1,000 days after the 2015-16 season.
