Happy days as Scottish National winner reaches 500 on the Flat

PJ McDonald, who blazed the trail for northern jump jockeys switching to the Flat, returned to the scene of his greatest triumph to ride a landmark winner on Rainbow Mist.

Graham Lee and Dougie Costello have since made the shift but McDonald was quite a ground breaker and he underlined the success of that move by scoring his 500th British Flat triumph in the 5f nursery.

McDonald, whose 37 jumps victories included the 2007 Scottish Grand National on Hot Weld, won the Yorkshire Cup on Clever Cookie in May and reflected: "This is a great place to ride winners and it is a nice place to hit that milestone. Happy days.
