Hands-on amateur Megan Wingrove on the hunt for next ride after another winner
Tuesday: Beverley
Megan Wingrove is never sure when her next spin in the saddle will come along, so tries to seize any opportunity as best she can and did just that on Starfighter in the 1m2f handicap for amateur jockeys.
The gelding is trained by Wingrove's boss Mark Loughnane and from just ten rides under rules she has now partnered three winners.
Her younger sister and fellow jockey Jodie is also employed by the trainer, although the pair are a key part of their 84-year-old father Ken's Shropshire operation along with brother Damien, who will one day take over the licence.
"I'm happy as an amateur, doing this as a hobby and just trying to get a few more rides and winners," she said. "I'll keep kicking and have been very pleased with how it's gone — I couldn't have wished for better.
"We're always trying to find races for Dad's horses, but it's just whether they get in and then at Mark's the races will come along and we'll be told we've got a ride."
The 24-year-old added: "Dad has only got a handful of horses, but we're trying to get some more for amateur races. He wants to see me and Jodie do well, and we work at Mark's, which is only 20 minutes away so it's convenient.
"We'd go to Mark's first thing and then come home, do our horses, and then go back to Mark's in the afternoon, so it's pretty full on."
