Hamilton conjures winning run out of Hattons Hill

Anyone who backed Hattons Hill to win the 3m novice handicap chase can thank jockey Jamie Hamilton they collected on the 15-2 shot, for the rider made a fine recovery after the eight-year-old pitched on landing at the fourth from home.

Even after that he looked to have a formidable task as last week's Carlisle winner Kanturk Bank was sailing along in the lead, and even at the last held a clear advantage. But it all changed on the run-in as Hamilton conjured a renewed effort out of his mount to get him up in the final strides to win going away by a length and three-quarters.

The winner is trained by Harry Hogarth, who said: "It's been a bit of a struggle with him but the cheekpieces helped and he likes this soft ground."
