Hamdan ace Muraaqib delivers and there may be more to come

Hamdan Al Maktoum, who had 18 horses running at Newbury's Dubai International Arabian Races on Sunday, had high hopes one in particular would deliver and the exciting Muraaqib did just that when running away with the Shadwell Dubai International Stakes, the £55,000 feature of the eight-race meeting restricted to Purebred Arabians.

In front of a crowd of 9,105, the Francois Rohaut-trained four-year-old proved far too classy for his six rivals under Francois Xavier Bertas, winning by two and a quarter lengths despite idling when clear.

The performance had Shadwell's stud director Richard Lancaster, who manages the Arab racing arm of the sheikh, purring.
