Any eagle-eyed punters who noted that William Haggas was paying a rare visit to the east Midlands course were well rewarded with a double after both his runners, Cavatina and Fanaar, visited the winner’s circle.

Haggas said: “The last time I was here was quite a few years ago. We’re very busy at home at present so I thought I’d leave my wife Maureen in charge so I could come here – she’ll go to Nottingham tomorrow.”

Cavatina came with a well-timed run under James Doyle in the 7f fillies’ handicap to hit the front over a furlong out, before showing a pleasing attitude to stretch a length and three-quarters clear of Electric Landlady.
