Rejecting conventional wisdom and showing guts under pressure, record-equalling Marie's Diamond summed Mark Johnston up perfectly.

The three-year-old was a far-from-certain stayer in the Listed mile Pomfret Stakes, but there was no hiding him out the back and hoping for the best.

Rather, he was ridden boldly from the front, making all under Silvestre de Sousa and staying on gamely to repel all challengers in the straight for a victory that equalled his trainer's own record of 47 winners in the month.
