Greenall heads to Cheltenham with a live chance as strong yard form continues
Saturday: Hereford
Oliver Greenall continued his fantastic run of form with his sole runner on the card when Post Chaise caused a 25-1 shock in the 2m5½f handicap hurdle.
Safely held in three maiden hurdles last autumn, the five-year-old looked to be struggling down the back straight but was galvanised by Jack Tudor to scuttle up the near-side rail on the run-in and strike on his handicap debut, with the jockey riding out his claim in the process.
Greenall said: "I’m really pleased, he’s a nice and genuine horse. I thought he might still be too green today but they’ve gone quite hard early and it’s suited him – he probably wants three miles in the future."
Greenall heads to the Cheltenham Festival with a 27 per cent strike-rate in the last 14 days and believes Herbiers has a great chance in the Martin Pipe – should the five-year-old sneak into the race.
Greenall added: "I think his chances are high, he loves top of the ground and thrives in a strongly run race, I think he’ll just sneak in as long as Willie [Mullins] and Gordon [Elliott] don’t run too many.
"He seems in great form and I think he needed the run at Kempton as he's a stocky horse, he’s been in good form since and seems to be progressing – I’m hopeful."
Successful visits
Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls also sent one representative to Hereford each and walked away with comfortable winners.
1-5 favourite City Chief made light work of his short odds to get off the mark in the 3m1½f maiden hurdle for Henderson, while the Nicholls-trained Milan Bridge made it two wins from three starts under rules in the 3m1½f handicap hurdle.
