Great Scott, Garfield looks a two-year-old with a great future

There was something old and something new on a memorable afternoon for Bill and Tim Gredley. First they teamed up to land the Newmarket Town Plate with jumper Bivouac, then 130 miles up the A1, their colours were carried to victory in the 6f two-year-old maiden by James Garfield.

Success at Newmarket earned the traditional box of sausages but James Garfield, who unseated jockey Oisin Murphy after the line, could be a real money-spinner.

The 1-3 favourite had finished third at Royal Ascot and trainer George Scott, Bill Gredley's future son-in-law, said: "That was very pleasing after a fine effort in the Windsor Castle. The pressure was piled on after Tim got Bivouac home!
