Great Scott - Fanshawe plaudits for rider as Wandering Rocks shows class
Saturday: Doncaster
Wandering Rocks proved a worthy advertisement for his sire Ulysses with a gutsy display in the 1m2f novice stakes that suggests he has plenty more to offer.
The Cheveley Park Stud-owned gelding was partnered by Rowan Scott, who reeled in the front-running Godolphin challenger Tribal Wisdom before going on to score by a length and a half.
Trainer James Fanshawe said: “David Thompson [Cheveley Park Stud owner] wanted some support for the stud’s stallion Ulysses and with the help of [managing director] Chris Richardson, we got this one.
“He’s had a few niggles along the way but he ran well in his last maiden and I’m delighted he’s got it together now. I'm sure there will be plenty more to come.
“Rowan was riding for me for the first time and he’s done a great job. I met him at the Breeders’ Cup meeting and I knew he was a decent jockey.”
Scott was earlier seen to good effect when 22-1 shot Nifaliophobia pipped Kodi Dancer after a prolonged duel in the 6f nursery.
The winner is trained by Nigel Tinkler, who has struck a rich vein of form and said: “The horses are doing well and long may it continue. My horse was big price but this was a handicap so it was wide open. He was helped by the visor, drop in trip and softer ground.”
Hat-trick hero
It was a memorable day for another young jockey, Harrison Shaw, who notched his first treble with victories in the last three races on Parisiac, True Mason and Asmund at accumulated odds of 452-1.
