Trainer Grace Harris was left to dream about a Coral Welsh National tilt with On Call, who showed a fondness for his local track when landing the 2m7½f handicap chase.

The mount of conditional jockey Conor Ring, the eight-year-old powered clear by seven and a half lengths to secure back-to-back wins having scored over course and distance last month.

Harris said: "You're always nervous, going into the last race he was an outsider and then coming into this race he was the favourite, but he's backed it up – it was just a great day.

"You always dream about the Welsh National, he's that type of horse. He's got a long way to go, but if he could keep improving then obviously you've got to dream."

Harris has already matched her personal-best tally with five winners and puts the success down to upgrading her facilities.

She said: "We've recently put in a round gallop and it just helps with the jumpers, it's deep sand, which a lot of the big trainers have. It's been a massive help."

Witness Protection bounces back

Witness Protection won the feature 2m novice handicap chase for trainer Martin Keighley. The 13-2 chance was a beaten favourite on his last start when losing a shoe mid-race, but made amends under James Best when repelling the fast-finishing Red Rookie by a neck.
