Josephine Gordon's eventful afternoon in Surrey did not include the one victory she needed to register a coveted 100 winners for the year, but she still received wide acclaim for her riding ability after avoiding near disaster in the 2m handicap.

Making the running on Color Force, the first of her two mounts, last year's champion apprentice was badly hampered and nearly unseated on the home turn when coming together with eventual winner Lake Shore Drive, ridden by Stevie Donohoe.

The incident, which led to Gordon riding the last two furlongs without any irons, resulted in a seven-day careless riding ban for Donohoe which commences on December 6.
