Golden Twilight lands feature as Dylan Browne McMonagle records a hat-trick

Dylan Browne McMonagle lit up Monday afternoon at Dundalk with a 41-1 treble, which included victory aboard Golden Twilight in the feature €50,000 'Red God' Handicap.

The Donegal rider had the Mick Halford-trained five-year-old up with the pace throughout before urging his mount forward and, despite hanging across the track, put two and three-quarter lengths between him and the runner-up Ides Of August for a third win at the track.

Halford said: "He’s a better horse here on that surface. He got a bit lost at Galway in the rain – it didn’t happen for him. But that was great, I’m delighted for his owner Frank Lynch whose been a great supporter of ours over the years.

"He’s a gorgeous horse and he’s only getting stronger. We’ve had to be very patient with him, it took him a long time to get going, but he’s doing it now."

Royal Scholar, who returned 13-8 favourite, landed the mile handicap in good style for trainer Sarah Lynam to get McMonagle’s day off to a flyer, while the Joseph O’Brien-trained Karaoke landed the 6f fillies' maiden to give the young rider three winners across the afternoon.

On Karaoke’s success, McMonagle said: "We were eager to go forward on her today. We didn’t have a good draw in nine but she was good from the gates, very professional. I got her across into a good position and just followed the leader into the straight, and she just picked up the pieces from there."

Impressive run from River

Adelaide River was introduced as a 40-1 shot with Paddy Power for next year’s Cazoo Derby after an impressive winning debut in the mile maiden for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

The stoutly bred newcomer, by Australia out of Irish 1,000 Guineas second Could It Be Love, was asked very few questions by Wayne Lordan as he quickened away inside the closing stages to run out a stylish two-and-three-quarter-length winner.

He holds entries in the Futurity Stakes, the Royal Lodge, the KPMG Juvenile Stakes on Champions Weekend as well as the Epsom Classic.

Lordan said: "He’s a lovely colt. He always showed a bit at home but was always the lazy one as well. He went out to the start today nice and sleepy, jumped a bit slow, but thankfully I had plenty of room to get up into a good position. He went down past the two-furlong pole well and went forward nice pricking his ears, he had plenty left in the tank."

Harry's at it again

Course regular Harry’s Bar again showed his liking for the all-weather surface after defying a huge weight in the 6f handicap to record a sixth win at the track.

Even with the aid of Adam Caffrey’s 7lb claim, it looked a tall order for the son of Exceed And Excel, but his class prevailed as he saw off stablemate Dream Today by half a length to record his 13th career victory, all of which have come on the all-weather.

Winning trainer Ado McGuinness said: "They went good and fast which suited him and Adam [Caffrey] gave him a great ride. He's a very good horse and we've had great fun with him. He's a horse of a lifetime really."
