Lady Buttons turned a good Christmas into a great one for trainer Phil Kirby and her growing fan club.

She carried the silks of Jayne and Keith Sivills to land the richest win of her career in the £75,000 Mansionbet Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares' Chase.

And such is the mare's popularity that jockey Adam Nicol was not the only one in her colours – Jack Olley, nine-month-old son of Kirby's head lad Simon Olley, was resplendent in purple and white, thanks to granny's skill with a knitting needle.
