Glenamoy Lad went the brave route under Joe Fanning to just emerge victorious on his return to Newcastle in the optional claiming handicap over six furlongs.

Fanning from the front is often a phrase bandied about during the Flat season, but the experienced jockey proved he is as equally adept from the rear, travelling well on Glenamoy Lad at the back of the field before boldly quickening up the stands' rail.

The lightly raced four-year-old, who has tackled some lofty engagements this year without success, got an uninterrupted run up the rail and reached the leaders easily before moving into the lead.
