Conditional rider Ciaran Gethings left the course in a better frame of mind than on his previous visit after Gardiners Hill completed a hat-trick in landing the 2m5f handicap chase.

Last month Gethings was unseated from Deckers Delight at the third-last in a handicap hurdle, the incident sparking a torrent of abuse on Twitter and debate about the criticism of jockeys on social media.

The jockey said: “At the time I was upset by all the things that were said about me as it was a case of getting unbalanced and losing an iron, which ended up in me being unseated. There seemed to be thousands of them wanting to have a go at me.
