The four-runner novice sprint was in effect a battle of the Richard Hannon apprentices, and it was Gary Mahon who earned East Everleigh bragging rights on his boss's Drakefell at the expense of Rossa Ryan on the 4-9 favourite Global Academy.

Ryan's mount, trained by Gay Kelleway, blasted off in his customary fashion in the 5f contest but had nothing in the tank when 2-1 second best Drakefell came upsides at the furlong pole.

The winner earned an opening quote of 20-1 from Paddy Power for the three-year-old sprint on all-weather finals day at Lingfield next Friday.
