Galway beckons for Plate winner Alcala

French-bred Alcala's summer got even better when he completed a hat-trick in the £50,000 Betfred Summer Plate for trainer Sam Twiston-Davies, trainer Paul Nicholls and Owners Group 016.

There may be an even bigger plate on his horizon because if he comes out of this race in good shape he could head to Ireland on Wednesday week for the Galway Plate, for which he is a 14-1 shot.

He was sent off at 9-1 here to continue his winning spree and despite a slight mistake at the last, he got home by three-quarters of a length from Wadswick Court, who made a bold bid to give Peter Bowen his fourth win in the race. The pair finished more than four lengths clear of 5-1 favourite Shelford.
