Fry cautious after chasing debutant Phoenix Way enters RSA and Marsh picture

In his Racing Post stable tour Harry Fry revealed Phoenix Way’s performance in the 2m novice chase would decide whether he could be a promising novice chaser or go down the handicap route, but the trainer was left none the wiser after the seven-year-old squeezed home under Aidan Coleman.

Only three runners went to post and with evens favourite Quick Grabim disappointingly tailed off, Phoenix Way wore down the Paul Nicholls-trained Stratagem on his chasing debut despite being outjumped at the last.

Bet365 made Phoenix Way, a winner over three miles on his last start over hurdles, a 33-1 chance for the RSA and Marsh Novices’ Chase, but Fry issued a note of caution.
