Following the afternoon's opener, a most messy, unsatisfactory affair, it would be reasonable to say neither Ryan Moore nor William Buick looked ready to kick off a rendition of Bring Me Sunshine. Two of the sport's fiercest competitors were fresh out of a contest in which they had been barely able to compete. Their afternoon was soon to improve.

There was Group 1 glory for Britain's triple champion jockey and the man who long since had this season's title won. They claimed Guineas trials on juveniles who, in all probability, will not return for Guineas weekend. If there was a future Classic contender in action, it may have been in a Royal Lodge that turned into a sprint.

The Cheveley Park and Middle Park Stakes really were sprints. They were won by sprinters.
