Warthog needed a big heart and five and a half minutes to win the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, but jockey-of-the-moment David Noonan did not have a second to savour the most important success of his career as he hotfooted it to Hereford to ride in the bumper.

He showed a slicker turn of foot than the David Pipe-trained grey when shooting to the car park, but once on the road was able to reflect on a sweet victory – one made even better with some doubts about the resolution of the seven-year-old.

He never flinched up the hill when rallying to regain the advantage from Spiritofthegames, the 40-1 shot who had looked like spoiling the party on the run-in.
