Frodon victory has Nicholls looking forward to new season

Autumn is kicking in and Paul Nicholls fired his opening shot ahead of the core jumping season after the smart Frodon made a winning debut over fences with a ready victory in the 2m½f novice chase.

The champion trainer said: "All our summer horses are about to be roughed off for the year and he is the first of our winter horses to run – whatever he has done on this occasion he will improve a lot for. It's nice to get the first one on the board as we have a lot of young horses at home who are not that far off a run.

"Frodon was always going to make a smart young chaser and we have options coming up with him as he could come back to this course early next month or go to Chepstow a day or so later. Wherever he goes he should have a real chance of following up."
