Fog eventually clears as Tully shines on chase debut for Fleming
Once again the curse of fog threatened to ruin a third Irish race meeting in less than two weeks, but while it did eventually clear before a twice-delayed second race, it was unfortunate that it shrouded the best performance of the day, that of the Barry Connell-owned Tully East in the opening beginners chase.
The son of Shantou gave trainer Alan Fleming his first winner since May, and the manner in which he saw off odds-on favourite Bachasson between the final two fences before that horse's fall at the last was very pleasing. So was the spectacular jump he put in at the last under Denis O'Regan, with Fleming opining that there should be a lot more to come from him.
He said: "He's a talented horse. We couldn't see it but Denis was absolutely delighted with him. He looked to jump very well. He's entered in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas but I don't know if we'll go there, we'll see what happens. Hopefully the horses are on their way back and we've some exciting ones to come out in the coming weeks."
