At the end of a week when the Racing Post has been celebrating 'nearly horses', Flowing Clarets brought back memories of a mare who hit the bullseye eight years ago.

She is a daughter of the cracking middle-distance handicapper Flying Clarets, a tough front-runner who gained the last of her seven victories in the John Smith's Cup at York in 2008.

The three-year-old is a speedier sort herself, if not quite so talented, and she got off the mark when she landed the 5f seller under George Chaloner.
