Flat racing returns to positive feedback after major drainage work

Racing returned to the recognised Flat circuit for the first time since August 14 last year and, after drainage work on the area that resulted in the abandonment of the Ayr Gold Cup festival, the overall feedback was positive.

Clerk of the course and long-time head groundsman Graeme Anderson said: "I've had no complaints from anyone about the track, except that after the first race the jockeys thought it was riding a bit quicker than the official going description of good to firm, which was changed to firm in places after the second.

"They said the area where we did the drainage work rode well and we're hoping to put about 8mm of water on the home straight and cover as much of the remainder of track as possible overnight."
