Friday: York

Streets Of Gold provided his connections with another lucrative payday by stretching his unbeaten record to five in the inaugural running of the 2YO Series Final.

Having won a nursery at the Ebor meeting, the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained colt landed his second £100,000 race at York, following up his victory in a €300,000 contest at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend last month.

Streets Of Gold, who was bought for £27,000 as a yearling, travelled powerfully to take up the lead before hanging left across the track. The 11-10 favourite covered plenty of ground, but still had enough to beat Tyrone's Poppy by half a length under Danny Tudhope for owners Jonny Allison and Gary Stevens.

Johnson Houghton has Classic aspirations for Streets Of Gold and had debated supplementing him for the Middle Park or the Dewhurst.

Speaking from Newmarket, she said: "He's a pleasure to train and the staff have done an amazing job. He's very tough and just loves it, but five on the bounce isn't easy to do.

"I'm thrilled with him and pleased for his owners. We might look at the Horris Hill [at Newbury on October 22], we'll see how he comes out of it first."

Dawes delight

Apprentice Rose Dawes has bounced back from injury to finish the season with a flourish and gained a third win from her last six rides on Betweenthesticks in the 5½f nursery.

Dawes won on the son of Captain Gerrard last Saturday at Wolverhampton and the pair struck again with an all-the-way success at 15-2.

Based with Mick Channon, the 21-year-old missed part of the season after breaking her collarbone in an accident on the gallops at home.

"It's nice for the boss to give me opportunities in some nice races like today and I'm forever grateful," Dawes said. "This horse thrives off his racing and has given his owners a lot of fun."
