A first success on turf for Treacherous also marked a first winner since racing resumed in Britain for Ed de Giles, with the trainer pleased to get up and running for the season.

Treacherous is a multiple winner on the all-weather and has not run many times on turf, but he took advantage of a significantly lower mark to take the 6f handicap by a nose under Silvestre de Sousa.

"He ran really well at Sandown back in 2018, he had another run after that and then we gave him a wind op," De Giles said. "He then started scaling the heights on the all-weather getting to a mark of 90 and only ran once on turf at Ascot on good to soft, although I think it was a bit softer and it didn't suit him. I always thought if we got him on quicker ground he'd be able to show his true colours."
