Firestream scorches into Challow consideration with debut hurdles success
Friday: Chepstow
Firestream blazed into Grade 1 contention after an impressive success on his hurdling debut for Anthony Honeyball.
The five-year-old cruised clear of his rivals by 21 lengths under Aidan Coleman to confirm the promise perceived by Honeyball, who is hoping the novice is a future top-level star.
The trainer said: "We've always thought a hell of a lot of him. We had him down as a real smart horse but were probably a touch disappointed with his bumper form.
"Now he's converted to hurdles as well at that, with a little bit of tidying up over his jumps he looks a lovely prospect. He's got a decent engine and will run in the Challow next. We want to keep him fresh for that and we'll give him his day."
A wide-margin bumper winner in January, Firesteam was last seen finishing behind exciting novice Weveallbeencaught at Newbury in March.
However, he met no such opposition on Friday, and will now join his promising stablemate Kilbeg King in targeting Newbury's Grade 1 contest on December 31.
"The dream is that they could become contenders for the Challow," Honeyball said. "I've been very lucky they've come out like they have."
Honeyball secured another impressive winner in the mares' handicap chase with Credo, who scored by 19 lengths on her second start over fences.
"It's lovely for her to have an easy win because she was banging her head against a brick wall over hurdles," Honeyball added.
"She's only small, so to carry 12 stone and give her jumps air like she does is really pleasing. She'll head to Hereford on December 10 for the mares' chase series final, and she'll have a right chance."
