Fine day for Hammond: he has the 1-2-3 in one race and then completes a treble

Trainer Micky Hammond emulated Aidan O'Brien's feat in the 2016 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe by sending out the first three in the 1m7f handicap chase.

The 11-1 shot Applaus, the outsider of Hammond's three runners, stayed on strongly under Sean Quinlan to land his first race of the season with the trainer's other two – Caraline and Roxyfet – chasing him home in second and third.

The trainer said: "The race suited all three so I thought why not run them all. I don't think I've ever had the first three in the same race before.
