Final-flight fall for Oakmont robs Hughes of 1250-1 Cartmel four-timer

Reigning champion Brian Hughes moved level with Adam Wedge at the top of the jump jockeys' standings after a 178-1 treble at Cartmel's first meeting of the year, and it was so close to being even better.

Hughes had Oakmont poised behind the two leaders in the penultimate 2m1f handicap hurdle, before falling at the last as Pardon Me won for Mick Easterby.

Hughes scored comfortably on Totally Rejected and Top Billing in the opening two contests before completing his treble with a last-gasp win on 11-year-old Federici.
