Fighting Irish lived up to his name in the preliminaries of the first division of the 6f maiden but the first offspring of Camelot to hit the track showed he could be a player next time out when finishing fourth to Westerland.

Named after the nickname of the Notre Dame US College Football team, Fighting Irish was in the huddle for much of the trip, but stayed on well to only be beaten three and a quarter lengths.

Trainer Harry Dunlop said: "We were very pleased with that effort as it was a strong race and it was pleasing that Camelot's first runner has run a nice debut. If he had won we'd be thinking about Royal Ascot but now we'll look for a maiden over this trip."
