Fest Deiz ends seven-month blank for Kieran Purcell in thriller
Fest Deiz gave trainer Kieran Purcell just his second winner in more than a year when recording the third victory of his career in the 2m4½f handicap hurdle.
Fest Deiz, who landed a Kilbeggan bumper on his debut for Purcell a couple of seasons back when sent off a 50-1 chance, came out best in a thrilling four-way tussle under Donagh Meyler, the rider coming in for high praise from the trainer after the race.
"Donagh is a very underrated rider and he is a great help to me," said Purcell. "He gave the horse a brilliant ride and I am thrilled."
Fest Deiz was also responsible for Purcell's last winner when scoring at Cork in October, and the six-year-old is turning into something of a flag-bearer for the County Kilkenny trainer, who revealed he arrived at the course confident of a bold showing.
He said: "I knew he was in great form and I thought he'd be hard to beat. We're not sure where we'll go next, but it's great to get the win."
