Fallon's faith in his agent pays off as long trip proves successful on Aphelios
Thursday: Carlisle
Sending a jockey up to Carlisle from his Newmarket home for one ride is a bold move for an agent, but Cieren Fallon headed south a happy man after Chris Dixon's confidence in Aphelios proved well placed.
Dixon is among the team behind owners The Horse Watchers, who paid 70,000gns for the three-year-old at the Tattersalls July Sale, and Aphelios was beaten a nose on his debut for connections at Chelmsford earlier in the month.
However, the Mick Appleby-trained sprinter scored by a length and a quarter this time in the 6f handicap and is likely to be aimed at a similar event at York on Sunday week.
Dixon said: "We liked a couple of bits of his form and felt he had some untapped potential. We were a little surprised he was beaten at Chelmsford, but he was probably beaten by another well-handicapped horse. There's a bit more to come hopefully.
"Cieren was initially due to be at Carlisle, then he was going to Ffos Las but it all fell apart late on, so I said the ride is his and he said he'll go if we think he'll win. I'd have been in a bit of bother if he hadn't!"
Top treble
The Karl Burke-trained Polyphonic sealed a 169-1 treble for jockey Clifford Lee with an eight-length victory in the 1m3f handicap.
Lee's treble came for three different trainers with wins on Glittering Choice for Hugo Palmer in the 1m1f handicap and Albeseeingyer for Steph Hollinshead in the 7f handicap.
