David O'Meara must have thought he had done everything right.

He had wound Star Shield up perfectly with two runs since racing's return. The Middleham Park-owned five-year-old was made the 3-1 favourite accordingly and he ran a blinder under Danny Tudhope. But he failed to factor in that man Richard Fahey.

Fahey has a habit of upsetting even the best laid plans. His Gallipoli was a largely unconsidered 28-1 shot, but he positively bolted up.
