Exciting Frankel colt Silver Quartz completes double for Palmer and Doyle

The two divisions of the mile novice stakes looked deeply intriguing races on paper, and both contests produced promising three-year-old winners worth noting in the shape of Hugo Palmer-trained duo Employer and Silver Quartz.

Silver Quartz, who holds a Derby entry but is likely to be kept at a mile, was the most visually impressive of the pair, drawing right away to win division two by four and a half lengths.

James Doyle, who rode both colts, said of Silver Quartz: "I was delighted with that. It was a bit messy and he took a bit of time to work out the job, but when the penny dropped he quickened away well.
