Michael Owen is a racing man through and through nowadays but it would be foolish not to ask his advice on the eve of the new Premier League season.

He sniffs out winners rather than goals nowadays and was celebrating the victory of Punkawallah for his Manor House Stables in the 1m2f handicap.

But the striker who scored more than 250 times in his football career needs little coaxing to turn his thoughts to the resumption of top-flight action and he said: "Manchester City are the likeliest winners.
