Evan almighty again in Swinton as Constable brushes aside rivals

Only Martin Pipe has a better record than Evan Williams in the historic Swinton Hurdle after the trainer notched a third success in five years courtesy of wide-margin winner John Constable.

The Pertemps Network-sponsored Grade 3, first run in 1978, is traditionally an ultra-competitive contest but the Dai Walters-owned six-year-old looked a blot in the handicap when hacking up by 14 lengths.

John Constable, the well-backed 5-1 favourite, showed no ill effects from his crashing fall at the last at Aintree's Grand National meeting when he was fighting out the finish with Chesterfield, who subsequently won the Scottish Champion Hurdle.
