The closest Frankie Dettori ever got to Frankel was in the first five letters of their names.

Nine times he tried to beat him and nine times he failed, but yesterday they were on the same team and the outcome was thrilling, as the legendary thoroughbred's daughter Fair Eva gave him his biggest win yet as a sire.

In the astonishing start to Frankel's stud career this was an important milestone, for in running away with the Princess Margaret Stakes, sponsored by her owner, Khalid Abdullah, Fair Eva was giving him his first Group-race victory.
