Elgin earned his ticket for Cheltenham when following up his debut win at Newcastle with a length-and-three-quarter defeat of Mohaayed in the novice hurdle taken 12 months ago by subsequent Sky Bet Supreme Novices' winner Altior.

He has some way to go still before comparisons with Nicky Henderson's outstanding prospect can be justified and is a 25-1 chance with Betfair Sportsbook and Paddy Power for the Supreme, but he is heading very much in the right direction.
