A relatively weak second division of the mile handicap provided the best finish of the afternoon as the first three home were separated by a nose, with the judge being forced to call a dead-heat between International Law and East Coast Lady.

The two winning jockeys, David Egan and Tom Marquand, both hold the title of champion apprentice after the former was crowned the winner of the 2016-17 title at Catterick on Saturday, but he thought he was narrowly denied this time around.

"I thought I finished second and I said to Tom after the line that he got me. She put her head down when she was challenged and she was very game indeed. She's a battler," Egan said.
