Ed Crisford remains cool as Beautiful Aisling breaks her maiden at Beverley
Thursday: Beverley
Joint-trainer Ed Crisford believes he has found the ideal trip for Beautiful Aisling following her maiden success in the 5f novice.
The Havana Gold filly, who was sent off the 2-5 favourite, justified her price by finishing a length and a quarter clear of Cotai Pearl under King George-winning jockey PJ McDonald.
Beautiful Aisling was having her first start in 55 days and was last seen finishing 11th in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.
"She didn’t quite stay at Ascot. She travelled well into the race, but the last half-furlong she was treading water a bit and a stiff five furlongs would be perfect for her," said Crisford.
"There are no future plans with her, but we are very pleased with her performance. I don’t think the handicapper will put her up much, so we have nursery options."
Temperatures reached the high 20s at Beverley but as conditions continue to test the industry, Crisford is remaining cool about things.
"It is tough, because we can’t get on the grass like most, but we need patience with some horses and when the rain comes we’ll be ready," he added.
Double joy
Trainer Nigel Tinkler closed in on 30 winners for the year after recording a 59-1 double on the card.
High Security kick-started the brace with victory in the 5f handicap for older horses and it was completed by Strangerontheshore who took the 1m½f handicap.
Dream team
John Quinn and Jason Hart, recent winners of the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville with Highfield Princess, teamed up again to good effect as Leading Company took the 7½f handicap for a second course-and-distance victory.
