Regulars at Newton Abbot would have been forgiven a double take when they glanced at their racecards on Friday only to see Michael Easterby's name next to a pair of runners.

The North Yorkshire-based trainer sent his first runners to Newton Abbot in the shape of Banny's Lad and Ganbei, and Banny's Lad swiftly provided Easterby with his first winner at the Devon venue.

Banny's Lad was sent off a well-backed favourite for the opening maiden hurdle and battled well to fend off Beau Phil and score by half a length.
