The Essex track has never been short on ambition and with more than £133,000 in prize-month on offer, the course was duly rewarded with a quality turnout.

Grabbing a big slice of the prizes was Derek Shaw, a trainer who has supported Chelmsford since it reopened two and a half years ago and after last night’s performance, he has no reason to turn away now.

Having already struck with Dynamo Walt in the 5f handicap, Shaw then added the £30,000 7f handicap to his night’s work thanks to Welliesinthewater, both in the hands of Kieren Fox.
