A week that promised much but delivered only frustration at York for Charlie Hills ended with a consolation Group victory for the trainer when senior pro Dutch Connection made the most of a rare chance to race on fast ground.

Without the conditions the five-year-old needs, he was not even able to defend his Lennox Stakes crown on his favourite track last month but, in the midst of a warm August bank holiday weekend, he found his form to run down Salateen in the Weatherbys Racing Bank Supreme Stakes.

"He needs quick ground and it's been a bad summer for that with all the rain," said Hills. "He likes it here too, it's the third time he's won here now. September can be a good month for fast ground so I think he'll go to Doncaster for the Park Stakes.
