Every two-year-old who scores impressively at this time of the season is inevitably talked up as Royal Ascot prospect and Barbill certainly fits the bill following his easy debut success in the 5f juvenile contest.

The son of Zebedee proved yet another smart youngster unveiled by trainer Mick Channon this spring and he knew his job when quickening well clear of the opposition to score by four lengths from Five Amarones.

Channon’s son and assistant Jack said: “He had been working well with all the nice horses at home and going well, so we were reasonably confident he would run nicely even though there were one or two in the race well fancied too.
