Dream start to new job for Dylan Kitts as he rides first winner on Nocte Volatus
Tuesday: Catterick
Dylan Kitts enjoyed a dream start to his new job with Tom Lacey when he steered Nocte Volatus to a comfortable 17-length victory in the 2m3f conditional jockeys' handicap chase.
Lacey opted to make use of Kitts's 10lb claim to help negate the 9lb rise in the handicap Nocte Volatus was hit with for falling at the last with the race at his mercy at Market Rasen this month and his faith was duly rewarded, with the young jockey winning his first race under rules on his first ride for the trainer.
"Yesterday was actually my first day working for Tom full-time," explained Kitts to Racing TV.
The 20-year-old, who learned his trade in the pointing sphere, added: "I jumped the last and I thought what’s gonna happen to take my luck away? I couldn’t quite believe it. I’m absolutely delighted, my first full day for him yesterday and a winner today, so hopefully it carries on that way."
Kitts was unable to make the day even better as his other ride on the day for Lacey, Hunting Percival, beat just one rival in the feature 2m3½f handicap hurdle won by the Nicky Richards-trained Findthetime under Brian Hughes.
It completed a double for Hughes, who had already combined with Donald McCain to help Irish point-to-point winner Silver Flyer make a winning British debut in the 2m3½f maiden hurdle.
Da Vinci gets Foster off mark for season
West Yorkshire trainer Joanne Foster enjoyed her first winner of the season as Da Vinci Hand stayed on strongly under Craig Nicol to pip the well-backed Claret Dabbler on the line in the 1m7½f novice handicap chase.
